Songbird on Garden Sundial Limoges Box

A small bird pauses on a garden sundial, as if checking the hour before flying off again. This quiet garden moment is a hand-painted porcelain Limoges box, made in Limoges, France.

Telling Time by the Sun

Sundials have marked the hours in gardens for centuries, long before clocks hung in every kitchen. Pairing one with a songbird makes for a gentle reminder to slow down and enjoy the passing day. The bird and sundial are painted by hand, so each piece has its own small differences.

A Perch in the Herb Garden

• Hand-painted porcelain from Limoges, France
• Fits a garden, bird or sundial collection
• Pairs well with birdhouse, fountain and watering can pieces

Hours Worth Remembering

This makes a lovely retirement present, a reminder that the hours now belong to the garden. It also suits a master gardener, a bird watcher, or a couple celebrating a long marriage, since the sundial counts the good days. A thank-you for a garden tour host or a landscape architect works well, too.

Set it on a sunroom ledge, a potting bench shelf or a windowsill where the morning light falls. It fits naturally among other garden pieces and brings a calm, unhurried feeling to the room.
