A pewter squirrel rests beside the edge of a porcelain bowl shaped like a leaf. The ten-inch-long form brings a woodland reference to a serving piece, with the small animal providing a sculptural contrast to the smooth bowl.

“I would keep the squirrel in clear view rather than bury it in an overflowing display. A modest bowl of nuts or wrapped treats lets both the shape and the detail show.”
-Mrs. Mayfair

Maker / Heritage

Vagabond House began in 1986 by turning antique silver tableware into jewelry and table accents. The Haas and Hardy families focused the company on tableware after acquiring it in 2004, and three generations now contribute to the Sierra Madre, California business. Its designers look closely at nature, old architecture and antiques, then work with carvers, artisans and fabricators to bring those ideas into useful objects. In the pewter work, details such as the veins of an oak leaf or the textured skin of a pear are carved and polished into the form. That attention to small, recognizable things gives the pieces much of their character at the table.
